A late review of our adventurous journey in South America. With acknowledgments and a photo album that invites you to reminisce about people, culture and landscape.
We explore Samaipata and discover a low-cost accommodation as well as an impressive eco-lodge in the Amboró National Park, where we enjoy nature, delicious food, and fantastic starlit skies. Our hikes and excursions, including a visit to the hummingbird garden, leave us with unforgettable experiences, encountering animals, plants, and breathtaking views. Despite small obstacles such as fallen trees or limited infrastructure, we have an unforgettable adventure and collect amazing memories.
We spend ten hours in Mairana, stay in a budget accommodation, and discover Coca Machucada at the market. After breakfast at a typical stall, we continue our journey in an overcrowded taxi to Samaipata.
We explore Sucre, switching accommodations to experience both a chic apartment and a welcoming home with Judith. We enjoy local cuisine, visit attractions, and use various modes of transportation to discover the city. Despite minor health issues, we feel well taken care of and gain many valuable experiences with the locals.
We stay at the familiar accommodation 'La Torre' and deal with Pascal's health issues at the hospital. Aside from that, we enjoy exploring local attractions and a horseback riding tour through the stunning landscape. Finally, we travel to Sucre by minibus and arrive safely.
We enjoy our stay at the "Hostal sin Fronteras" and explore attractions like the Train Cemetery. We try various cafés and restaurants, celebrate at the "Llama Café", and aren't deterred by minor challenges. Despite some doubts about local conditions, we experience an interesting and memorable time in Uyuni.
We experience an impressive journey through the Salar de Uyuni with breathtaking landscapes and exciting wildlife observations. Our accommodations range from simple lodgings to a salt hotel. The tour is characterized by discoveries and encounters with Bolivia's nature and culture.
We return to La Paz after the mountain climb and enjoy the city. My stay is relaxed, but the bus journey to Tupiza is chaotic and delayed. Nevertheless, we arrive safely and I am glad to finally reach our destination.
We set out to climb our first 6000-meter peak near La Paz. Along the way, we meet many very kind people and, thanks to great efforts, just barely reach the summit in time. On the way back to La Paz, we take the opportunity to get a good long rest.
In Tupiza, we experience mixed accommodation, enjoying 'Hotel La Torre' thanks to a good offer. We explore the few attractions of the city, relish local dishes, and embark on an exciting tour to the salt flats. Surprisingly, we meet many other Germans on the tour, leading to an unexpectedly communal experience.
In La Paz, we stay in two different accommodations: an unconvincing capsule hotel and a cozier hostel at the Witches' Market. We explore many city attractions and embark on impressive day trips to Laguna Charquini and the Valle de la Luna. During this time, we make use of the affordable urban cable car network while sampling local cuisine at various restaurants.
In Copacabana on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca, we stay at 'Hostal Estrella del Lago' and on Isla del Sol at 'Willka Kuti Hostal'. We explore attractions such as Cerro Calvario and Plaza Copacabana, and enjoy regional specialties at local restaurants. On Isla del Sol, we visit several landmarks with a guide and then hike leisurely through the landscape.
