MAIRANA - Ten Hours in the Lawless City Without License Plates
Accommodation
Our cheapest accommodation so far was called "Alojamiento Popular Mairana." We were really surprised to see that former shops had been turned into individual apartments. Such entrepreneurial spirit! And truly a good idea. We paid 70 Bolivianos for two people.
Sights
Nothing! Except maybe the Jesus? ✝
Transportation
On foot across the street :D
Food and Drink
We had breakfast across from our accommodation at one of the typical breakfast stalls. There was:
- Api (10 Bob)
- Pasteles (3 Bob)
- Soup
and other hearty dishes with chicken and rice. Clean isn't exactly the right word, but it tasted good :D
Expenses
We bought some snacks for the ride.
Standard Market Offerings
There was a lot of Coca Machucada, a particular type of coca that is pounded directly with plant ash (and flavors). You don't have to remove the stems anymore and can enjoy your coca quite carefree.
Unsolvable Mysteries
Why did we see yet another large white Christ statue here? Are they everywhere? 😂
Taxi to Samaipata
For the overcrowded taxi to Samaipata, we paid 7 Bolivianos per person. The taxi driver's wife also recommended a few accommodations, and we reached our destination, the Plaza de Armas in Samaipata, within half an hour.
