AREQUIPA - Back in Peru's Second Largest City
Accommodation
We stayed in the same place (Pascal was there during my Canyon trip as well).
Sights
In the city, I only visited:
- Observatorio y Planetario "Stellarium"
- Discount if you visit both the observatory and the planetarium
- Great planetarium with a German film translated into Spanish
- Nice telescope show of the night sky
- Despite light pollution, stars and the craters of the moon were clearly visible
- Market stalls and small shops between Mercado San Camilo and our hostel
Transportation
We had to take a taxi a few times; otherwise, we walked. With the taxi:
- From the accommodation to the terminal
- To and from the hospital
Food and Drink
We celebrated my successful climb out of the canyon at "La Despensa." Afterward, we went to the "Museo del Pisco," where I had a very expensive and delicious Pisco Sour. Pascal opted for an incredibly good non-alcoholic cocktail.
Cafés and Restaurants
- La Despensa
- Museo del Pisco
Expenses
Since my bloated stomach didn't get any better, we went to the hospital the day after my tour. Everything was examined there, and 72 hours later, I could retrieve my results online from the hospital's internal lab database. Not entirely unexpected: E. Coli. Here are the costs:
- Hospital stay (outpatient): 64.62 Euro / 266.20 Soles
- Medication: 27.00 Euro / 111.22 Soles
- Taxi: 3.24 Euro / 13.10 Soles The total cost was 94.86 Euro. The Allianz insurance reimbursed me with 96.54 Euro – certainly no complaints from me! 🤭
Unsolvable Mysteries
How can this non-alcoholic cocktail be so so so delicious?
Bus to Puno
Our bus to Puno was with Cruz del Sur and cost 65 Soles per person. We departed at 2:00 PM and arrived around 8:30 PM – the trip took approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes. Once there, we were hungry and had dinner at a restaurant. Then we took a taxi to "Hostal Acuarius Puno," where we were warmly welcomed.
